SOME FACTS ABOUT ME:
1. I cannot drive in the left lane of a freeway if there is no shoulder on the left side.
2. I didn't learn to swim until college. To this day, I am terrified of being in bodies of water where I cannot reach the bottom with my feet.
3. Until we bought this house, I moved 17 times in 17 years.
4. I love Little House on the Prairie. I own all the books and the DVDs. I am determined to expose my children to the Little House universe.
5. I have driven cross-country twice -- both for moves. I left California with everything I owned in a Toyota Tercel. I returned with everything in a Penske rental truck.
6. My husband calls me the most distractible organized packrat there ever was.
7. I have made it a mission of mine to inform everyone I know that my name is not the feminine form of M*****. In fact, M***** is the masculine form of my name. I even wrote a college application essay on the meaning and origin of my name.
8. Cooking & meal planning are perhaps my least favorite parts of being a stay-at-home mom. I would rather scrub the toilet and clean the garage than cook.
9. I lost my best friend to Reye's Syndrome (a complication which developed when she took aspirin to help her with her chicken pox) when I was six years old. Thus, my parents were scared for my brother and me to catch chicken pox too. Unfortunately, since neither he nor I got the vaccine, we both caught bad cases of the pox as adults.
10. I am missing an incisor tooth. When two of my baby incisors fell out, only one grew in its place.
11. If money were no object and I could live anywhere I wanted, I think I would live in Manhattan again. I would at least get a timeshare there.
12. I have been to the ER seven times for seven different reasons.
13. My biggest food craving during my first pregnancy was McDonalds' breakfast egg ham biscuit. I once arrived at McD's at 10:20 am (10 minutes before they stop serving breakfast) and they ran out of the biscuits. I was so mad and depressed. You just can't do that to a pregnant woman. My biggest food craving during my second pregnancy was baked potatoes with butter and black pepper. I had one almost every night.
14. I have taught 4th-8th graders. In grade order of my preference to teach: 4th, 5th, 8th, 6th, 7th
15. The one piece of furniture I plan to own until I die is my card catalog.
16. I really dislike driving. That's one of the reasons why I wouldn't mind living in NYC again.
17. I have a huge crush on Hugh Jackman. My husband is fully aware of this.
18. I played the violin for seven years. I haven't played since I left for college, and cannot play anything now.
19. I have nightmares of me dying in a car crash or in a drowning accident.
20. My favorite foods: (1) anything I don't cook and (2) everything my mom makes.
21. Despite hearing the horrors of remodeling, I still daydream too much about building my dream home one day, and whenever I have time, I still like to go to Open Houses and daydream.
22. When I turned 30, I did three things for the first time: I got my ears pierced (one lobe got infected so I have since let the holes close up again), I visited Europe (I went to London by myself - only booked the tickets 2 weeks before I went), and I 23. I have been on TV three times -- all unintentionally. Twice as part of the TV audience (once was in the Arsenio Show dog pound), and once in the background of a news story.
24. Ennis Cosby is perhaps my favorite "celebrity" I have ever met. I'm not sure he counts as a celebrity, but he was a classmate of mine at graduate school and one of the nicest guys I've ever known. I still get very sad when I think about how he tragically died. Hugh Jackman and Kristi Yamaguchi are a close second and third.
25. I love midcentury modern design.
